Oliver Burston has run his own practice since 1994. The main business of the practice is now domestic work including extensions, house remodelling and new houses.

Most of the work is in North London including Highgate, Muswell Hill, Crouch End and other parts of Haringey, Hampstead and other parts of Camden, Barnet, and Islington. We have also worked in South Lakeland Area of Cubria and North Lancashire.

The practice has also taken on larger projects which utilise its experience in obtaining planning permissions from the local planning authorities, work with listed buildings and intricate sites. The practice has a high degree of success in obtaining planning permissions.

The practice’s approach is contextual, for example extensions are either designed to look as if they are an integral part of the original design or contrast in a sympathetic way with the original building.

The practice has a continuing interest in sustainable design. This includes our Greenspan zero heating design, advice on maximising glazed areas within the increasing constraints of the Building Regulations (Approved Document Part L) and the installation of solar collectors.

We normally provide a full architectural service including design, working drawings, specifications and project management of the construction stage. We work regularly with number of local builders, usually selecting the contractor for a particular project by competitive tender.

The service we provide includes in house costing of the project at sketch design stage and cost planning to monitor costs throughout the project. On most projects we provide 3D ‘sketchup’ drawings as part of the design process.

Alternatively we can provide a part service, for example design drawings for planning submissions and detailed design drawings for Building Regulations approval.

We also undertake party wall awards and domestic energy ratings.
